Motivating

motivationMy interviewing techniques were learned and honed during years working directly with participants. I am trained in motivational interviewing, which is an effective way to help you explore, detect, and change behaviors no longer proving to be beneficial. This approach is very powerful because, during the process, it also helps patients to identify situations, or dynamics that are detrimental. Through proper coaching comes a change in behaviors and perspective; which directly correlates to an improvement the patient’s general emotional wellbeing.

I do not judge people. I maintain an objective ear to each patient’s story. I try to help the patient understand how past history, experiences (both good and bad), environments, and how choices shape who the individual is today. With this perspective in mind, we can examine your current situation, and/or emotional distress. We will consider potential choices and tools to help you cope with difficult events or feelings. You will recognize what you have the power to control. I believe if we can change the way you think, we can change the way you feel.
